Jungle Scene at Dusk Painting by Hans Scherfig (b.1905-79)
A beautiful jungle scene by Hans Scherfig, 1958. Hans Scherfig is widely admired throughout Scandinavia as both an author and painter. Most of his paintings depict jungle scenes in a charming naive manner. This exapmle, as always is executed in egg tempera on board, depicting a night time visit to a local watering hole by a group of antelope or gazelles. Unusually, the work concentrates more on the mood of the setting over the more typical ensemble of animals. A lone serpent is present, as is the silhouette of a tortoise at waters edge. The painting has been recently reframed and is ready for hanging.
