1955 Sculptural Maquette for The M.I.T. Chapel by Harry Bertoia
Harry Bertoia was commissioned by Eero Saarinen in the 1955 to create a sculptural work for the chapel of M.I.T. His final work consisted of numerous vertical rods to which countless bronze melt coated plates were attached, each catching and distributing rays from the skylight immediately above. It was a major success and one of Bertoia´s best known and most beloved works. This piece is a working model or maquette for the larger work. A single steel rod has been melt coated in bronze with 6 applied melt coated squares. The rod is set into a simple wood base for display.
