Incredible Relief Panel sculpture by Mary Bauermeister 1960
German artist Mary Bauermiester is best known for her illusionist optical glass sculptures and obsessive stone assemblages. This is a very early work, which displays her tradmark obsessiveness. Created in much the same fashion that bees create their honeycomb, Bauermeister applies sucessive layers of resin to create a hypnotic relief of peaks and deep valleys. The backside is signed and dated, and retains exhibition labels.
