Mounemental Copper Mound by Harry Bertoia

A near complete departure from his well known sculpture styles, this Bertoia masterpiece was completed in the early 1970´s. The internal structure is a series of welded copper rods, radiating around the center, creating the tapering form. The entire surface was then overlayed with a melted copper band, coiling from the base towards the tip. Having lived the entirety of its existence in the elements on the Bertoia property in Pennsylvania, it has taken on an otherworldy deep patina. The surface has a battered lunar appearance, with various shades of sulphurous copper patina. Just under 8´ in height and a full 3´ across at its base.
