Huge Bronze Spillcast Sculpture by Harry Bertoia
A monumental work by Bertoia, in the spillcast style. Bertoia would pour molten bronze, and then in the narrow window of 90 seconds, manipulate the bronze before it cooled to a temperature beyond malleability. The resultant works are incredibly organic, resembling biological growths and often coral. Bertoia´s work is almost exclusively an illustration of his total control over the material. In the spillcast works, the bronze´s own physical properties overshadow the artists intention, the final form quite often beyond the imagination. The entire surface is incredibly intricate, and bathed in a minty green patina. 43" H 29" W 7" D.
